The pre-TL on the right can still be added with the pi+block method though if I'm not mistaken. That method is way less costly than the long^3 hook with tail method, as it can be done with 5 gliders even if an intermediate two blocks stage is needed.

Great! Congrats! We have more and more speeds now!
We didn't left with a lot of missing speeds (here is my list of the spaceships that seems to be attainable for missing speeds):
diagonal c/5
Spider - orthogonal c/5
diagonal c/6
orthogonal c/6
----
In the last few months, we had more novelty in spaceship synthesis than in the past 40 years.

Here's a still life+oscillator (beacon) which might be able to be converted into 58p5h1v1:
Code: Select all
x = 18, y = 18, rule = b3/s23
15b2o$10b2o3bo$11bo5bo$11bob5o$12bo$14b2o$15bo$9b2o4bobo$9b2o5b2o$7b2o
$bo5b2o$b3o$4bo$3bo$3bobo$2obob3o$o2bo4bo$2b2o3b2o!
The beacon can be converted with two dot sparks, and the eaters are also removable without destroying the still life.
An alternate version which may be simpler to convert but harder to construct:
Code: Select all
x = 19, y = 19, rule = b3/s23

Cool. I missed that one because the two gliders + hook with tail only give two blocks on their own.

So that's...88 gliders, plus however many is the most efficient method for finagling the hook-with-tail there. Which is at most 6, getting there via 2-glider eater -> Cis-boat with tail -> hook with claw. So, 94 glider synthesis.
In other news, I think B29 is a relatively easy target.

Congratulations on the weekender synthesis! It's been just over 15 years since the weekender was discovered, and due to its simplicity, there has always been vague hope that it could be synthesized.

Wow! Congrats on the Weekender synthesis! After trivial attempts to plact that TL myself, I thought that it was a pretty hard job.

I've updated the wiki with the glider synthesis counts of the recent ships. I don't know how many gliders it takes to get the starting debris of 25P3H1V0.2, though, entirely because of that obscure 15-bitter.

OK, here is the incremental and continuous synthesis for 30P5H2V0. It's 66 gliders unless I have missed any reductions.

I wonder if this particular still life could benefit from some apgsearch assistance? It is listed in the common names dictionary of apgsearch-2014-12-16-v0.52.py
Code: Select all

This one looks a better predecessor for the tail (see generation 4):

Or this:

Code: Select all
"xs15_ci5diczw11": ("000c0012002d00290012000c", 20)
Anyone have a soup for this, or is one retrievable from Andrzej Okrasinski's soup-search results? Looks like that's where the name came from.
It doesn't happen to be one of the umpteen billion still lifes that have showed up in my apgsearch results so far.

Based on posts in the "Accidental discoveries" topic, here is a 2 glider reduction of the Weekender synthesis (the actual important bit was not found by me, I am just reporting it here) :
Code: Select all
x = 85, y = 21, rule = B3/S23

Woops...I guess one can continue to improve that issue as well, but I prefer to invest in something without synth yet.
Here is a SL which is pretty close to the 58P5H1V1 (we need better name for this one):
Code: Select all
x = 60, y = 13, rule = LifeHistory
29.2A2.2A$29.A2.A.A14.2A2.2C$8.2A20.A.A2.2A12.A2.ADC$8.2A19.2A2.A.A

$3.A.5A17.2A.2A.2A14.D$4.A22.2A.2A.2A12.2A.2A.2A$47.2A.2A.2A!
EDIT Here is something more substantial (see gen 2):
Code: Select all
x = 9, y = 9, rule = LifeHistory
5.2C$.A3.2C$.A$2A3.2C$2A.A.2C.A$A$.2C2.3A$C.C2.A$.C3.A!

Throwing another glider into the mix I found this which reduces the original Weekender synthesis by 6 gliders.
Code: Select all
x = 28, y = 25, rule = B3/S23
bo$2bo$3o12bo$16bo$14b3o3$20bo$18b2o$13bo5b2o$14b2o$13b2o3$17bo5bo$15b
obo5bobo$16b2o5b2o$13bo$13b2o$12bobo$24bo$22b5o$21bo5bo$22b5o$24bo!
I suspect it is still not optimal.
