### Re: The Hunting of the Elementary Conduits

EDIT: Here's something delightfully weird and spartan. I haven't found a good way to cleanly extract one of the B outputs, but I'm sure there's something that doesn't require resorting to Bellman:

Code: Select all

``````x = 34, y = 35, rule = B3/S23
\$10b2o\$10bobo7bo\$12bo5b3o\$12b2o3bo\$17b2o4\$30b2o\$9bo20b2o\$10bo\$10b2o14b
o\$9b2o14bobo\$9bo14bo2bo\$25b2o16\$20bo\$19bobo\$19b2o!``````
Barrister found a way to cleanly eliminate the block from the B, without producing the other output. Name BB91B:
Code: Select all
``````x = 24, y = 36, rule = LifeHistory
6.A.2A\$4.4A.3A\$3.A8.A\$3.A2.2AB3A\$2.2A.A.A.A\$A2.A.2A2B\$2A2.5B\$4.5B\$4.
7B5.B\$5.6B3.5B\$3.17B2.B\$2.18B.B2A\$.21B2A\$B2C17B.2B\$2B2C14BEB\$B2C14BEB

``````
It looks like it could be fed into itself, but barrister isn't finding a weld that works. It's only 1 cell that's problematic.
EDIT: the block of the B is consumed independent of the bottom boat catalysis, so we may be able to get more B-to-X's out of this setup.
Unfortunately you're going to be shot down by someone who does not believe that that active object can be useful as a conduit intermediate, but what I can say is that this is interesting, even if not strictly on-topic here.
It's a "Jason's p22" output. It's more common than you might think.
so with some splitters we could have a p15 G-to-Jason's p22?
"Almost": there would be an unwanted interaction between the two halves, and the eater 1s would get in the way.
"Shooting down" HerscheltheHerschel isn't quite what I want to do -- but it's true that I do seem to be spending a lot more time than I want to these days, moving posts to more appropriate threads.
@HerscheltheHerschel, what I would like to beg you to do is to pay attention to the types of patterns that get posted on collection threads like this one, and to try harder to avoid posting things on these threads that don't match the criteria.
I don't either believe or disbelieve that a Jason's p22 active object might someday be an input or an output to an elementary conduit. But I do believe that the above "Jason's P22 object-to-P" doesn't belong on this particular thread yet.
As soon as
1) you can exhibit a working connection from X-to-Jason's-P22-object-to-Y,
2) you can exhibit another working connection from W-to-Jason's-P22-object-to-Y or X-to-Jason's-P22-object-to-Z, and
3) there are workable ways to supply X and/or W inputs and consume Y and/or Z outputs,
then the Jason's P22 object will become a standard active object, and converters for it will belong on this thread. Until then, we have plenty of other threads for more speculative conduits -- please see the link list in the first post.
I'm happy to leave these three posts in here, though, unless somebody reports them -- as a good placeholder reminder (for the next year, let's say) of what the limits are for posts to this particular thread. I just have to make my best effort to prevent fifty more similarly misclassified posts from showing up here in quick succession, given the encouragement from this Jason's-P22-object post.
Nice find, although it is a rediscovery (first posted here). The top B-to-G is included in the elementary conduits collection, but I don't think the extension was ever included because it technically isn't a B-to-B, so there was nowhere to put it. It might be worth revisiting that decision. Unfortunately as I recall, the block directly above the initial B gets in the way of most input conduits.
related B-to-LoM that releases a backward glider:
Code: Select all
The clearance is not exactly stellar, however.
EDIT: No glider, but slightly better input clearance:
glider reflector [based on the "G-to-X" beehive factory]...
Nice one! -- another ghive-based 90-degree reflector that doesn't cross paths with the input. It's even a kind of inside-edge edge shooter. There's a huge spark that spills over the edge, but no actual catalysts.
The spark knocks down the repeat time from 90 ticks to 141 ticks. Might there be some interesting uses for that big spark, way out there in the open? And/or can the spark be suppressed by a catalyst to improve the repeat time without losing the transparent output lane? So far I've only found that it can shift a block by (1,1), but that seems ... questionably useful.
confocaloid has added this to the G-to-X (November 2023) page already -- there's getting to be quite a collection there.
EDIT: Yikes, was not expecting an odd-period-input-stream blinker keeper. Probably not useful, but it does knock the repeat time down to 90 successfully:
Code: Select all
this might help with the repeat time problem without sacrificing anything too useful
Code: Select all
``````x = 41, y = 64, rule = B3/S23

There's at least one rather hair-raising exception, where a conduit can be connected to the output --

Code: Select all

``````x = 38, y = 48, rule = LifeHistory
