Which version of apgsearch are you using? v1.1?
Yes, I am. Has there been an update? (I can't use apgnano on non-Life.)

There's quite a few replicators, including yours, listed here: http://www.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/ca/replicators/

On a different note from spaceships, I'm intrigued by the rule B345/S0. It's quite similar to LongLife, but explosive. Small oscillators emit dots that survive and help to further the cloud's locomotion. It reminds me of some sort of amoeboid or microorganism-like structure with wildy oscillating boundaries.

The second type of signal, which I've labeled S2 to distinguish it from the more-versatile original signal, is oftentimes easier to hook things up to - as demonstrated by the two x->G converters shown.

And a couple of "syntheses" of my p54 oscillator from earlier:

Code: Select all

x = 44, y = 32, rule = extendedlife

(both also work in LifeHistory, of course)

Both of those conduits behave the same way in normal Life.

68.2A$67.A.A$69.A7$58.2A$57.A.A$59.A!
and this p70 (p35 on the far right, showcasing an eater2 variant on the bottom that restores the block even in cases where the original block) oscillator that sorta reminds me of my p54 from earlier:

Code: Select all

x = 76, y = 76, rule = extendedlife

FC2$68.F2.F2.FC$68.E2.3A14$71.A$71.2A!
The bottom-far-right p35 showcases an interesting eater 2 variant; in that example, it restores the block when the block on its own would also survive (something the regular eater 2 can't do). It also turns out to be toggleable, and can eat preeeetty much everything regardless of the block's presence.

I was playing with some Generations rules and found some amusing stuff in 23/345/4. Mostly random soups decay to blocks and ships but these arose naturally:

The X pentomino is a spacefiller, but a fragile one. As soon as the edge touches something else, a rip appears which rapidly consumes and destroys the object with a few blocks left behind.

Code: Select all

x = 84, y = 150, rule = 23/345/4
82.A$81.3A$82.A146$2A$2A!
A period 124 oscillator; it recurs rotated 90 degrees every 31 generations.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = 23/345/4
3A$AB$2A2.C$2.A.B$3.A!
And a spaceship: (1,7)c/11 oddly enough.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 7, rule = 23/345/4
4.C3$2A$2ACA$.3A$2.A!

Interesting rule! The rule is especially interesting that the spacefiller occurs in natural ash, but doesn't make infinite amounts of chaos as it's pretty fragile. The rule also has a natural nonfiller:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = 23/345/4
.2A$A.2A$2A.2A$.2A.A$2.2A!
Edit @ Alexey: I see... Still it's great to see other spaceships in the collection.

While this rule is definitely interesting, it's unfortunately not new.

The fractal growing pattern in that thread is amazing... Around 300 million generations, something really surprising happens :o

It's a distorted version of the original fractal pattern! The whole 3-quadrant pattern really is self-similar, not just the little branches that sprout off it...
I figure that eventually one of these will sprout far enough away from something else to have another one sprout inside it... But at around 350 million generations on my computer, Golly chokes due to the sudden rapid increase in complexity due to the very reason why this moment in the pattern's progression is interesting...

OMG! That's so cool! If anybody's looking for it, it's on the left side. Here's what's interesting: It's not an exact copy, look very closely, in one of the sprouts, there are 2 dots. And on the laft of it there is another sprouter.

An interesting period 10 oscillator that occurs quite commonly in the rule B378/S238, which also has a few naturally occurring puffers. I like to call it the phaser. :D

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 5, rule = B378/S238:P11,11
5bo$2o2bobo$4obobo$2o2bobo$5bo!
The domino sparks that it gives off are useful for destroying gliders.
