Reaction that creates an elevener and a rare fourteen-bitter, as well as a bit of other junk:

Code: Select all

Which gives an 11G synthesis of 14-121:

Code: Select all

x = 73, y = 26, rule = B3/S23
63b2o$63bobo$61b2o2bo$42bo19bobo$29bo10b2o19bo2b2o$28bobo10b2o18b2o$

$28bo36bo!
The database says the previous best synthesis was thirteen, but I'm not sure how up to date that is.
On an unrelated note, an elevener can turn a glider 90 degrees:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 9, rule = B3/S23

That can be reduced to 8, but I also haven't checked Bob Shemyakin's results, which could contain a 5 or 6.

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
24bo$11bo10b2o$10bobo10b2o$9bo2bo$10b2o3$12b3o$12bo$13bo$18bo$17bo8b2o
$17b3o6bobo$13b3o10bo$13bo$14bo2$bo$b2o$obo!
Edit: verified, Bob's table doesn't contain 14-121 in 4G, 5G or 6G. I think that means this 8 is the best known.

Kazyan: "Bellman, can you turn a B-heptomino's natural block into a beehive?"
Me: "What were you looking for? Can that beehive in that position be turned into a B-heptomino in the same spot? (triggered by a glider?)"

This is an improvement. In my database was 13G.

Yes, like this:

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 18, rule = B3/S23

That came out of an ongoing project, which isn't too far from completion. (When it's done, I'll suddenly have a lot to say.)

Hehe I think he is talking about the peculiar eater reaction on the top right... I'm pretty sure he knows the pattern itself is not useful. And yes, that kinda thing occasionally happens as a pleasant surprise in ptbsearch and Catgl. In a similar note, I've found a boat catalysis of a pi in which the boat is transformed into a tub and recovers to a boat again. (I am not talking about the p8 pi-to-HWSS factory, which exhibits similar behavior:) )

But a single block can't eat a glider, and a regular eater 2 can't eat a beehive.

For a moment I thought that it might actually finally make this a functional H->Pi conduit:

Which database are you looking at? 13.217 takes 5 gliders, and 17.2203 takes 7 gliders. Both are made the same way - 3 gliders for a hat, then 2 gliders to add an eater head on one or both sides. That mechanism has been well known for a long time, and the raw synthesis files I have date back to 2000, and that was the last time they were edited. I am curious where a 9-glider synthesis came from.

This was first found by Gabriel Nivasch in October 2002. It's included in the jslife oscillator collection, supported by jams:
and is extensible

Code: Select all

x = 80, y = 96, rule = B3/S23
