I'll give it some time this weekend. I think I can build from apgnano. Dare I expand the box of interest, perhaps to 37 cells?

Of course! With apgnano's generation algorithm, that's probably not too much more CPU time than the current 33-cell search. But will you just have apgnano run each pattern to stabilization and then census the results? I liked Alexey's implementation using ".field" files -- makes it trivial to add another cell or three, whenever the previous distributed search gets completed.
EDIT: Aha, the 132/256 search is complete. Turns out I guessed right, with a lot of help from Sokwe:

I would guess that unless we filter them out with an apgsearch/apgnano hack, there will probably be hundreds of these kinds of oscillator results before the first spaceship is likely to show up.
