This describes the multistate rule format syntax, but not the semantics for different rules, e.g. is there a handy link to what the different states in LifeHistory mean?dvgrn wrote:A complete summary of multistate RLE format is in Golly's "File Formats" help document.
Re: Soup search results
There's the LifeHistory page in the Rule Table Repository. Usually if the rule creator has done a good job, there will be decent descriptive comments in the header of the actual rule table file, in the Rules folder for any rule installed with Golly.mniemiec wrote:This describes the multistate rule format syntax, but not the semantics for different rules, e.g. is there a handy link to what the different states in LifeHistory mean?

In addition to the resources that Dave points out, there's also a description on the wiki now. (Largely based, of course, on precisely those resources.)mniemiec wrote:This describes the multistate rule format syntax, but not the semantics for different rules, e.g. is there a handy link to what the different states in LifeHistory mean?

Not that notable but I just found my first natural object, this xs31! Finally!
It looks similar to a catalyst I've seen somewhere (with some snakelike object and a block on top) but I can't put my finger on it.

Worth noting, however, is that beacon variants such as this one are very commonplace in Catagolue.
Next time you find something, could you also provide a link to the soup and/or Catagolue page?

My first first discovery (first appearance in C1, anyway, it's shown up a number of times in other symmetries): https://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xs ... x121/b3s23 , a nicely symmetrical 34bit still life, which came from this: https://catagolue.appspot.com/hashsoup/ ... 8273/b3s23 soup.

Re: Soup search results
All three are known rotors. The 39 bit version of the P5 was found by Hickerson. The other P5 casings are new.
At some point maybe I need to finish up my objects SQLite database so that I can distribute it. One of the record keys it includes is Hickerson's rotor descriptor, so it's easy to look up oscillators like this.

Re: Soup search results
That was named by Dave and me simultaneously, owing to the fact that we waited for ages for one to appear in Catagolue and then (suddenly, and unaccountably) four appeared in very quick succession.Scorbie, about 20 pages earlier in this thread, wrote:Some objects are actually named by one person arbitrarily (e.g. Omnibus)
To quote some emails on 6th June 2015:
dvgrn wrote:Yes, but what _is_ the name? "Transport of Delight"? Or just "omnibus"? TheI, in an email with subject title 'London Buses', wrote:Wait for ages to find one, and then four come along in quick succession:

At least we now have a name for this 40bit stilllife.

The phenomenon is widely remarked upon, and not actually unique to
London though London may indeed have developed the busconvoy to
its pinnacle of perfection:
http://narrowboatstarcross.blogspot.com ... easy.html
Now that these next four London Buses all have the pi+2blinker
provenance, it seems all the more strange that the one that turned up
in my preCatagolue run was the product of convergent evolution.
