@rokicki: That's a very nice partial.
dvgrn wrote:Not to open another knightship can of worms, but has anyone looked at the possibility of knight-greyships? Are there any known edges that build, or eat, stripes agar at (2,1)c/something?
@dvgrn: :o Has your account been hijacked by one of the forum's more enthusiastic members? The one's whose fanciful requests you are normally trying to gently bring back to reality with sensible expectations of what is feasible with current search technology. :)

On a more serious note, I can't recall any knight wise grey ship components being posted, though there have been a few higher period components found (like this c/6 erosion component and Hartmut has found some 2c/6 against the grain components, but not been able to complete a ship). There are surely (2,1)c/6 components to extend, and probably consume the stripes agar, but finding the corners to hold it together when we can't even find a single (2,1)c/6 elementary ship? Phew, the mind boggles.

As far as I know there has been very little searching done for a c/8 diagonal ship. I should point out that WLS and JLS are faster than gfind for diagonally-shaped searches. Searches for short, wide ships might also be useful. Sometimes you can find a short, wide component and use that as the wings of a long, skinny core. This is how 56P6H1V0 and lobster were found.

This is known, and can be found in my moving object collection. This particular component is in velocity-c5o/ships-c5o-width-18.rle. In fact, every possible c/5 orthogonal width-18 bilaterally-symmetric spaceship can be constructed using components from that collection. This was shown by Tim Coe using his Knightt program.

My WLS says it can't output to a file for some reason. I wanted it to output long partials, but it says it cannot create the file.

This works fine for me. Is WLS perhaps installed to a location which needs Administrator rights to modify files? Or perhaps the output file already exists and is open in another program?

3c/10 w9 g is negative with zfind-s. Not promising results either, as the longest partial was somewhere around length 300.

I just completed a search for asymmetric width-11 spaceships at 2c/7 and the search completed with no results.

The longest partial reported is pretty long:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 45, rule = B3/S23

5b2o$2o7b2o$3bo5bo$2b4o3bo!
Total runtime was a little over two CPU days (but it completed overnight due to
multithreading).

I've also run width-4 searches through p20, width-5 searches through p15, width-6
searches through p12, and width-7 searches through p10, in four symmetries
(asymmetric, even, odd, and gutter), where the speed is k/p and gcd(k,p)=1 and
k<2*p, with no new results.

For width 11, 3c/8, even, odd, gutter, and asymmetric are all negative.
For width 11, 4c/9 even, odd, gutter, and asymmetric are all negative.

w10 c1/8 asymmetric is negative, and surprisingly never found any partial
longer than 32! And it took 20 CPU days. w11 c1/8 is finding partials (so far)
of length 203 (this translates to 208/8 actual rows in a generation).
Here's one:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 26, rule = B3/S23

Weird flotilla:

Owing to recent discoveries, has anyone tried looking for a (2,1)c/7 yet?
Parity Replicator Collection v1.6 is now live - please send all relevant discoveries here.

I'm running a 6 core search for a (2,1)c/7 spaceship on a gaming computer.

Here's my best partial so far:

Another slightly longer partial:

Useless, but (2,1)c/8 searched up to w9 with zfind 1.6, best partial:

Code: Select all

..o.o....
.oo......
..o...o..
.......o.
...oo.oo.
.....o...
.o.o.....
..ooooo..
..o..o...

Am I allowed to add results from this thread to the Spaceship Search Status Page?
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

currently trying to find a smaller head for sir robin's tail, and a (2,1)c/7.

EDIT:
(2,1)c/7 head:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 14, rule = B3/S23

When studying 3-glider collision I noticed this TL-parent glider collision:

Code: Select all

x = 110, y = 55, rule = B3/S23
2$38bo$38bobo$38b2o4$35bo23bo$35bobo21bobo$35b2o22b2o2$76bo$77bo$32bo
42b3o26bo$32bobo69bobo$32b2o70b2o4$5bo23bo23bo47bo$5bobo21bobo21bobo
45bobo$5b2o22b2o22b2o46b2o2$4bo23bo23bo47bo$3b3o21b3o21b3o45b3o$2bobob
o19bobobo19bobobo43bobobo$b3ob3o17b3ob3o17b3ob3o41b3ob3o$2bobobo19bobo
bo19bobobo43bobobo$3b3o21b3o21b3o45b3o$4bo23bo23bo47bo8$56b2o$56bobo$
56bo10$62b2o$62bobo$62bo!
I think it is known, however I have never seen it before. Maybe it can be used to construct a c/8-speed spaceship (3c/24 or 6c/48 or higher periods). Any ideas? However, it can turn suitable c/8 rakes into a spaceship.

Maybe something weird knight-ship-like could be engineered using 2G collisions which gives the G+TL:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 36, rule = B3/S23
18bo$16b2o$17b2o30$6bo$bo3bo$2bo2b3o$3o!

rokicki, do you have the best partials from the 3c/8 searches on hand? I am compiling a chart of best partials for each speed and symmetry.

Here is what I think to be a new C/10 spaceship/pushalong, copperhead based:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 35, rule = B3/S23
4b2o$3b4o2$2b6o$3b4o2$2b2o2b2o$2obo2bob2o$3bo2bo3$b2o4b2o$bo2b2o2bo$2b

o$bo6bo2$bo6bo$2b2o2b2o$3b4o2$4b2o$4b2o!
It can be extended as well:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 61, rule = B3/S23
3$7b2o$6b4o2$5b6o$6b4o2$5b2o2b2o$3b2obo2bob2o$6bo2bo3$4b2o4b2o$4bo2b2o
2bo$5b6o$4bobo2bobo$3b3o4b3o$3b2o6b2o2$3b3o4b3o$3b3o4b3o4$5b2o2b2o$7b
2o$7b2o$4bobo2bobo$4bo6bo2$4bo6bo$5b2o2b2o$6b4o2$3b3o4b3o2$3b2o6b2o$3b
2o6b2o2$4bo6bo$4bobo2bobo2$5b2o2b2o$4bo6bo2$7b2o$6bo2bo$6bo2bo$5bo4bo$
5bo4bo$6b4o$5b2o2b2o$5bo4bo$5bo4bo3$6b4o$7b2o!
Is this known? It seems to be too simple not to be.

I'm pretty sure that's new. And it's really nice.
