This fuse is actually in jslife, under fuses in d-3333333.lif
A c/3 long barge crawler is an interesting idea. Is there anything like that known already? It seems likely that such a thing exists - here are some signals which support that idea (search inspired by your post!)
Edit: moved to
signals thread.
This c/3 double long barge fuse lays a double barber pole:
Code: Select all
x = 51, y = 51, rule = B3/S23

The
5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on
GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.
Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of
LWTDS.

Run this in Golly. It doesn't work in LifeViewer.

I knew that!!! But I wasn't sure.
I discovered this while testing my Scratch cellular automata script.

That's

Can small adjustable spaceships overrun the speed limit of (|x|+|y|)/P = 1?

That is not an accidental discovery, and please stop posting the same thing in multiple places. This is already known as well, as you've posted it in 2 other spots on March 16.
I manage the
5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote
EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.
Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

Nice one... too bad about that little problem with the syringe version.
Let's see, we could add a reflector to make it a periodic G-to-H... unfortunately we seem to need a p11 or p13 spark source to make that work, since the trailing glider reappears after 143 ticks:
Code: Select all
x = 30, y = 33, rule = LifeHistory

Don't give up, though! There are more syringes out there somewhere, for sure -- or at least, the odds seem awfully good.

I do not know if there is some mean to generate such a spark (middle), but there might be means to avoid needing an additional glider.

The second one would some to allow a p146 loop in the same vein as dvgrn's p143 loop, but unfortunately it doesn't work because the first glider hits the eater 2.
The
5S project (Smallest Spaceships Supporting Specific Speeds) is now maintained by AforAmpere. The latest collection is hosted on
GitHub and contains well over 1,000,000 spaceships.
Semi-active here - recovering from a severe case of
LWTDS.

My bad... some cut-and-paste action mislead me. this still works without the eater though, but you would need to kill the block with an additional glider input. I might be missing some point here, but for the periods you have been talking about, pairing this with a gun seems to be the simplest "periodic solution", and any period works if so.

The issue with using a glider from the track to fix the insert is that you effectively need a periodic input, if so, I do not see why a periodic gun into a syringe is already a valid solution to this problem.

I am confident that this is one of the most absurd things I have ever found. Potentially the oddest thing anyone has found this year, yet extremely -and pathetically- useless.

This (and your description of it) is great. What's the predecessor still life? Is there any particular significance to it?

If it is possible to turn the shillelagh back into a pond siamese hat, it may not be useless after all!
I was so socially awkward in the past and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

The pond siamese hat can be recovered in
no more than eight gliders, but I'm not sure how that helps to de-uselessify this wonderful discovery...?

Comments.
I can't see any immediate application and I doubt there is any way to switch it back to the pond siamese hat with a single signal of some kind. If there is indeed something this can be used for, it will require either amazing creative thinking or perhaps a clever Bellman search.

I'm not sure if that still life could be considered "useful" but that is a very nice component.

Cute! This is technically not a heisenburp, because the glider is destroyed and reforms later. In a true heisenburp, the glider is itself not affected, but only affects the thing approaching it. (This is the same as the difference between an eater and a rock.)

Well I did describe it with a (-like) suffix to ward off nomenclature purists, which I knew would definitely note this misuse of the term 'heisenburp'; however, I failed. Indeed, the curse of desiring to put forward that stringent set accumulated precise vocabulary that some long time game of life enthusiasts have cannot be undone. Well, that now I have to look up what a 'rock' is, hurrah!
