New spaceships

Post by EvinZL » November 8th, 2018, 4:29 pm

I've been experimenting with the following pattern:

Code: Select all

#N bullethead
x=3, y=3, rule=B3/S23
bob$ooo$obo!
If you run it, you will notice that generation 3 reproduces itself, but then is destroyed by debris destroy it. Can anyone find a way to stabilize the debris?

P.S. I would like it to be called Bulletship 1

Code: Select all

#N sIgnATurE
#C https://catagolue.appspot.com/object?apgcode=xp0_sIgnATurE&rule=b3s23
x = 9, y = 5, rule = B3/S23

See [wiki]pi-heptomino[/wiki] and [wiki]Caterpillar[/wiki], and maybe [wiki]Pi ship 1[/wiki]. The reappearance of the leading pi-heptomino shape is a very common rediscovery.

The Sandbox seems like a good place for this kind of thing, so I removed the copy on the Patterns thread.

Thanks! I'm wondering if anyone can find new ones.

I think rule B31/S3 will make the shape a glider.

Code: Select all

x=3, y=3, rule=B31/S3
bob$ooo$obo!

Code: Select all

#N sIgnATurE

You might not need quite so many posts, or quite so many viewers in a row -- or at least use the THUMBNAIL command so they don't take up so much space:

It tends to make people (or me, at least) less likely to look at what you post, when there's so much vertical space with so little content.

The idea of a new pi ship crops up every few years, but so far nobody has found one -- and it's not for lack of people trying over the past several decades. Maybe there's one out there, but for various technical reasons the odds of finding it are low enough that people have tended to find it more rewarding to do their spaceship-hunting elsewhere.

I think the pattern was only there to show how the THUMBNAIL command works.

Code: Select all

x = 81, y = 96, rule = LifeHistory
