Cygwin.
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

I mean, if you are on windows 10, you can use WSL..

I can reproduce the issue. It looks like there are at least two fundamental problems here:
  • iglucose fails to open the named pipe;
  • Only one worker succeeds in retrieving an item from the JoinableQueue.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!

Are these problems something that I could fix somehow? Or is it an inherent problem with Cygwin that can't be solved?

2718281828, do you know if the searches done here were done with rokicki's zfind?

I am not sure if this is rokicki's zfind. I used ntzfind for this, likely a modification of it. So if I got it correctly, the search is not usable for increasing the numbers in the status table.

Hi everyone, one of my long-running searches just finished:

Code: Select all

./ntzfind B3/S23 w10 p13 k6 g l2000 r >> output.txt
[...]
Search complete: 0 spaceships found.
Calculations: 127042129051549
CPU time: 1941764.468000 seconds
Unfortunately I can't directly attach the output because it's too large, but it is available from here.

The other search is still going strong at 189T calculations and 3.5M seconds. I'll edit this post when it finishes (unless one or more months have passed.) Both were run on ntzfind v3.0.

I'll add it to the table. What search are you running currently, and have you done any other high witth 6c/13 searches besides g? Also, were all of the searches you ran in your spreadsheet also zfind 3.0? Also, is there any other website you could put that file on? I really don't trust that one.

I don't know what search is running at the moment, but I can check when it finishes. If I had to wager a guess, it would be 2c/13 or 3c/13. I've only searched up to w7 on the other symmetries, and that was at least a year ago.
Also, were all of the searches you ran in your spreadsheet also zfind 3.0?
Yes
Also, is there any other website you could put that file on? I really don't trust that one.
Sorry, I've removed the link. If you could suggest an alternative site I'd be more than happy to upload it there.
EDIT: Replaced link with a Drive one, thanks

Thanks. I am currently running 2c/9 w9 u, for about 250000 seconds. It will probably be a while longer. I am not sure of any trustworthy and easy websites to upload large things besides Drive.

Kind of yes, actually "ntzfind 3.0 by "zdr", Matthias Merzenich, Aidan Pierce, and Tomas Rokicki, 24 February 2018
- ./ntzfind B3/S23 p9 k2 x0 n1 w9 g m4000 s100". So only odd-sym, even-sym and gutter-sym, as the partials suggests. But asymmetric would have been found by gutter.

Okay I'll update the table then. Any other searches not reflected in the table that you did with ntzfind or zfind 3.0 or later?

No, but as mentioned at the moment I am running 2c/7 odd-symmetrie with logical width 11. And the mentioned knigth2/knightt-searches above.

Since I'm no longer in danger of double-posting, I'll announce it here: the mystery search has finished.

Code: Select all

./ntzfind B3/S23 w7 p13 k2 g l2000 r
ntzfind 3.0 by "zdr", Matthias Merzenich, Aidan Pierce, and Tomas Rokicki, 24 February 2018
- ./ntzfind B3/S23 w7 p13 k2 g l2000 r
Rule: B3/S23
Period: 13
Offset: 2
Width: 7
Symmetry: gutter
Depth limit: 2000
Stop search if a ship is found.
Use randomized search order.
[...]
Search complete: 0 spaceships found.
Calculations: 204355688396592
CPU time: 3779101.922000 seconds
I was running 2c/13 - that's why it took so long! It's a shame the result was negative, but now that I've run this search nobody else has to. I'm afraid there are no long partials because I only checked once or twice per day, and I didn't save the output to a TXT file (which is also why I couldn't remember what search I was running.)

Wow, I'm amazed that took so long. Do you ever run u or v searches? Asymmetric comes with gutter, but that leaves a strange gap in searching for some speeds.

EDIT, the link to the Drive file was for a w8 6c/13 search. Are you sure you ran w10? Are the other widths correct?

EDIT, never mind, it was lower in the file.

The longest 6c/13 partial in Billabob's file is this one:

Code: Select all

Why are you using the randomized search order? The default order should be slightly faster.

The laptop I ran these searches on isn't exactly high-end... in fact I'm surprised the search only took 43 days. I was prepared to wait another 2 months. And - yes I do. They're all in the spreadsheet I attached to my earlier reply. I have not run any unreported searches after these.
EDIT, the link to the Drive file was for a w8 6c/13 search. Are you sure you ran w10? Are the other widths correct?

EDIT, never mind, it was lower in the file.
Sorry, not sure why that happened. I will try running some even-symmetric c6/13 searches, starting with width 8. I may also try extending the partial you helpfully posted, if I can figure out how.

EDIT: w9 p13 k6 u is negative. There's some decent partials in there.
Sokwe wrote:Why are you using the randomized search order? The default order should be slightly faster.
Thanks for the tip. I remember reading that the randomized search order is faster a couple of years ago but I may be remembering it incorrectly. I'll run my future searches with the default order.

Sorry if I've been updating it too frequently. When I finish a search, I want to record it as quickly as possible. I unfortunately lost some of the partials, but here are a few:

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules. I also wrote EPE, a tool for searching in the INT rulespace.

Things to work on:
- Find (7,1)c/8 and 9c/10 ships in non-B0 INT.
- EPE improvements.

Hmm... has anyone looked for slope-6 ships? [e.g. (6,1)c/14]

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3-jqr/S01c2-in3

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 5, rule = B3/S2-i3-y4i

Yes, check the status page.

C/9 w8 a was rechecked with zfind 3, no positive results. I'll run w8 g next.

Longest partial:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 33, rule = B3/S23

I would generally recommend running gutter searches before asymmetric searches. If the gutter search finds nothing, then it also eliminates an asymmetric ship of that width.
