Soup-based syntheses

Post by Freywa » April 21st, 2019, 10:40 am

Goldtiger997, BlinkerSpawn, me and a few others have found out that Catagolue's sample soups are a gold mine for developing or improving syntheses. I ended up making many edits to one post in the Synthesising Oscillators thread detailing examples of such syntheses.

Since the soup search results thread is not dedicated to syntheses, this thread will be. To start off, here's Scot's p5 in 27 gliders from this soup:

Code: Select all

x = 280, y = 147, rule = B3/S23

Any new or improved synthesis I know of will eventually make its way into Shinjuku, so you may want to keep an eye on it from time to time.

Here's a synthesis helpsheet for those who want to assemble their own syntheses. The number above each collision is the number of generations needed to get from the live cells to the marked cells:

This might help somebody: It's the fastest way to make a half-honey farm from 3 gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 14, rule = LifeHistory
.A$2.A$3A2$9.D$8.D.D$8.D.D$9.D2$4.2D$3.D2.D7.2A$2A2.2D8.A.A$.2A11.A$A
!
Also, for the still life in the other thread, all we need is cleanup:

Code: Select all

x = 52, y = 39, rule = Life

Two things: First, that's 3 gliders; second, all 2-glider syntheses are known, as well as most (if not all) 3-glider syntheses.

I and wildmyron manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in Isotropic Non-totalistic rules.

Things to work on:
- Find a (7,1)c/8 ship in a Non-totalistic rule
- Finish a rule with ships with period >= f_e_0(n) (in progress)

8-glider very long prodigal (the basic idea was from Sarp):

Code: Select all

x = 32, y = 54, rule = B3/S23
29bo$29bobo$29b2o2$11bobo$12b2o$12bo8$2bobo$3b2o$3bo9$b2o3bo11b2o$obo
3b2o11b2o$2bo2bobo10bo8b2o$27bobo$27bo22$2b2o$bobo$3bo!
I would not prefer to have tentatives and partials of syntheses. I want full syntheses, and high-quality ones at that.

Edit: Triptych Still Life #131 (xs17_6s1raiczw1 or 17.5159) in 10 gliders from this soup. This was shown in the Pentadecathlon article announcing the synthesis of all 17- and 18-bit still lifes:

Code: Select all

x = 77, y = 48, rule = B3/S23

Here is a 24 glider synthesis minus the cleanup. I don't think the cleanup is possible in 4 gliders but I'm not sure.

Here is a synthesis that should be possible in 28g but I don't have time to synthesise it.

Using the spanking new findpreds.py, hat siamese loaf in 6 gliders (was 12). This still life appears on the path to rattlesnake, reducing the latter's cost to 31 (and thus below the reverse caber-tosser limit):

Code: Select all

x = 90, y = 36, rule = B3/S23

Edit: A 20P3 in 12 gliders (was 28) from this soup:

I'm new to the synthesis game, but I thought I'd have a go at a random unsynthesised (in Shinjuku) 18-bit SL.

I first saw it as the result of a 4G collision:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 14, rule = B3/S23
2bo$obo$b2o4$8bo$6bobo2bo$7b2o2bobo$11b2o2$16b3o$16bo$17bo!
Some methods of constructing it were posted on the Soup search results thread, but I don't think anyone completed the synthesis. This synthesis comes from https://catagolue.appspot.com/hashsoup/ ... 1478/b3s23

The latest version of the 5S Project contains over 226,000 spaceships. There is also a GitHub mirror of the collection. Tabulated pages up to period 160 (out of date) are available on the LifeWiki.
