This is basically a methusaleh, but it's the first time I see one which makes a pattern at it's firs generation.
also, it is remarkable because it outputs many objects for a 1000G mathisaleh, but very few gliders in comparison of the famous R pentomino

I was destroying a cordership when an heisenburp reaction appeared!

in the debris formed in the previous experiment, I noticed a smiley-like unstable object. Interested, I tracked it.

It's rare for sure, but I guess it's far less rare from starting patterns with 8-fold symmetry than from random soups. I was playing with patterns of "concentric squares" when the same arrangement of four beehive-at-beehives showed up (surviving!):

The small lake is nice! You found a natural lake, but this reaction is well-known: I fond it too.
looks like there is a kind of configuration which always give BB on BB on BB on BB
The predecessor for both of us is "four ships with 2 extra pixels each".

These are called "doves" (although I think "R-mango" could also be used, aka "R-bee" and "R-loaf" - personally, I hate these terms!)

I used to have a web site (currently down) that listed all the still-lifes up to 17 bits, with syntheses for all up to 13 (among other things). I'm currently working on a major revamp of it that I'll post when it's ready. Unfortunately, with 112243 still-lifes of 20 bits (and 4051726 at 24 bits), there are way too many to just list in human-readable form. even the machine-readable archives of them occupy ridiculously large amounts of space. (20 bits is reasonable at 1.5 MB, but 24 bits takes 83MB). By the time one has such large numbers, there is seldom a good reason to need complete lists of such objects unless one specifically wants to deal with complete lists (for example, in my case, to be able to explicitly enumerate all of them).

On the other hand, looking at H. Koenig's archives on pentadecathlon.com, it looks like he actually has complete lists of all the still-lifes up to 21 bits, which is much more ambitious than complete than my site (which focuses more on syntheses, with larger object lists provided only when it is convenient to do so).

I like the henry Zorneck pattern, where the shuttles collide, create a rare still life, are destroyed, and become a natural fuse. Once the fuse has burn-out, everything disintegrates, while activating the other traffic light.

Interesting! This means it could be synthesized from perhaps 12 gliders (I assume the four converging things can be made from a forming honeyfarm plus maybe one additional glider?), plus a few extra for clean-up. This might even be better than doing it the hard way.

A large number of discoveries in Life (as well as elsewhere in mathematics and other areas) come as a result of serendipity - inadvertently finding one thing while looking for something completely different.

I think it contains lots of other weird stuff as well, though.... like the collision between the R-pentomino and glider at gen. 1037 that emits the glider back out at gen. 1089 after colliding with another complicated thing.

while looking for a way to make a rake out of the p34 puffer, I found a p2724 puffer based on the p12 loaf puffer. The huge fuse which constantly rectreates doesn't damage the engine.

it they don't really have much to do with each other, but the finished product is usually a multiple of the fuse, except in extremely rare cases. Usually when this happens, it is because the result of the fuse clumps together into groups of 2, each one effecting the other, and there is no other spark or piece of debris that would result in 2 p24's grouping with each other to form a p48.

The third one ends up being the very old preblock+G -> MWSS. The other strange but long-known fact about that reaction is that you can move the trailing glider forward by one tick, and you get preblock+G->LWSS instead:
