Who can find a diehard of greater than 500 generations that does not involve a glider heading towards a really far away object?

If Catagolue paid attention (or, in the old version of apgsearch, assigned points) to such things, I bet it would have collected some fairly impressive diehards and methuselahs by this point.

Sometimes I'm happier that it doesn't track that kind of thing, but then sometimes my statistics-nerd side gets the upper hand, and I just want to see a graph showcasing the inevitable power laws that govern the likelihood of N-tick diehards and methuselahs.

We could use something like that to make a good estimate of how long the longest-lived diehard is that fits inside a 16x16 box... but then I don't really know what I mean by "good", since an estimate based on power laws would near-certainly be horribly inaccurate, and even if somebody comes up with a 1000-bit quantum computer, we'll probably never get to look in Plato's Cave and find out the real answer.

Another 4 glider bipond synthesis:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 8, rule = B3/S23

For a moment I thought this was a spaceship.

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 9, rule = B36/S23

It could be:

Code: Select all

#N Bomber predecessor
#O Nathan Thompson
#C A predecessor of the bomber spaceship in the HighLife rule.
#C www.conwaylife.com/wiki/index.php?title=HighLife
x = 10, y = 6, rule = 23/36

A glider colliding with a large still life produces a cis-very very long house on very very long house (Correct name?)

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 19, rule = B3/S23
bo2bo2bo$b7o2$b3ob3o$o2bobo2bo$o2bobo2bo$b3ob3o2$b7o$bo2bo2bo7$8b3o$8b

It can also reflect a glider 2 different ways

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 19, rule = B3/S23

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 19, rule = B3/S23

EDIT: It's actually the same reaction, triggered 2 different ways.
