wwei23 wrote: December 12th, 2020, 11:25 pmAnother idea is to use the output of the P26 factories. However, I couldn't hook up any of the sparks in MathAndCode's P26 blinker factory to another sparker, because the opposite-colored gliders always seemed to interfere with the engine through birth-blocking. It might be possible to just use the blinker to create the spark, but since chances are that 2 gliders are needed, one would have to line up with the glider stream, meaning that such a spark would needed to be inserted with very good clearance to be useful in a gun reduction. Any more ideas? :P
Could something like this work, or have you already eliminated it?

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 12, rule = B3/S23

It might work, but not with this particular sparker. The passing gliders of the opposite color would "stick" to the figure-8.

This sort of thing is quite common in many cellular automata. These are called trivial oscillators because the rotors don't interact (unless one rotor's period is a divisor of the other's). In this case the rotors have periods 6 and 20, so the oscillator is trivial, and therefore not of any significance.

EDIT: Corrected second rotor's period. Thanks MathAndCode for catching that!

Here's a variant that recovers more quickly.
