Re: Glider Eaters
"p25" and "p32" mean "pattern repeats every 25 ticks" or "every 32 ticks". It would be a little clearer to say "this eater takes 25 ticks to re-stabilize; are there any eaters that take longer?"
("Recovery time" is a little different, since this eater actually recovers enough to accept another glider in only 16 ticks.)
The 25-tick recovery eater is the slowest one in Dean Hickerson's 1998 eater collection, but as JP21's response indicates, some slower ones have been found in the decades since then.
Of course it's very easy to engineer an eater that takes as long to recover as you might want, using something like a trombone slide and some kind of signal circuitry, along the lines of early stable reflectors but with the outputs capped off with (more) eaters. So this challenge needs to be specifically a "direct fizzle" ... or some terminology like that, I'm not quite sure what. Some of these extended-fizzle reactions aren't exactly "elementary"...

I will NOT send my Viro ( a,k,a, Glider ) down some crazy Conduit rathole !
this whole Question is going to devolve upon the issue of exactly what constitutes being eaten
versus being a transmutated signal ( destructive ? ) or even Heisenburped - farted
( it has been my experience that if a thing can be burped, it can be farted as well... )

How to enter a partial to ntzfind?
Re: Thread for basic questions
* Use get-rows.py from the qfind repo (instructions included)
* Move or copy the "initrows.txt" file to your ntzfind folder.
* Run
Code: Select all
./ntzfind <args> e initrows.txt

Four questions:
1.What is BADS notation, how is it related to the B/S notation and where is it used?
2.What is the asymptotic growth rate of infinite distinct Corderships gun?
3.How to understand the existence of odd-period oscillators (possibly including p1 still lives) in alternating rules, particularly B0 rules? There is some discussion:

It looks like that pattern is already a sawtooth; the spaceship merely goes off the screen before that behavior becomes apparent.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

Re: Thread for basic questions
It actually isn't a sawtooth. The gun is destroyed at gen 86,026,439,896 due to improper timing.
B2n3-jn/S1c23-y is an interesting rule. It has a replicator, a fake glider, an OMOS and SMOS, a wide variety of oscillators, and some signals. Also this rule is omniperiodic.

Thank you. This seems to be the only timing that destroys the gun:creeperman7002 wrote: ↑February 15th, 2021, 12:34 pmIt actually isn't a sawtooth. The gun is destroyed at gen 86,026,439,896 due to improper timing.

You're welcome. In general, you can check the Elementary Conduits Collection.
I am tentatively considering myself back.
Re: Thread for basic questions
Terminology question: Normally, the rotor contains all cells that are moving, while the stator contains all cells that aren't. What happens when P2 oscillating sections are required for stabilization but aren't part of the main oscillating section, such as the P22 and P26 below? Are the P2 sections part of the rotor or stator?

Re: Thread for basic questions
Ok sorry for asking this again. (At least I know more this time.) I'm having trouble compiling. Yesterday I downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition and followed this tutorial. I tried compiling ofind, and I got this:
Is this a simple programming error or something else?
I tried compiling dr too and got this:
Did I not select it properly? It's in a zip file, if that helps in any way.
Also, I know that the LifeWIki compiling tutorial uses Cygwin, but AFAIK that tutorial is outdated, so I didn't use it.
