The Moving Racetrack
I'm thinking of making a moving c/2-speed racetrack. (See p30-racetrack.rle and p46racetrack.rle) It will be one-way, (because it's moving at the maximum speed possible in Life) but that doesn't matter all that much to me. Could I have a list of components?

Re: The Moving Racetrack
Not necessarily. There are ways of propagating signals forward at speeds faster than c/2:It will be one-way
Code: Select all
x = 115, y = 73, rule = S23/B3

Re: The Moving Racetrack
If you're looking for c/2 glider turners you should see the 'turner' patterns in Jason Summers' jslife pattern collection (under 'velocity-c2'). The jslife pattern collection can be found here.Extrementhusiast wrote:Could I have a list of components?

Re: The Moving Racetrack
Well, although the turners would be useful, I was thinking more like converters.

Re: The Moving Racetrack
I'd also recommend c/5, but 2c/5 is even better. Forward gliders, backward gliders and LWSSes are all easily interchangeable.
For c/2, I have the following accelerator component (based on a dirty reaction by David Bell, 1993). Here it is showcased in a perpetual loop:
An extra glider can be extracted by removing the lowermost LWSS.
The purpose of the accelerator is to allow a glider to be propagated forwards faster than c/2, so it can move forward relative to the c/2 mechanism.

Re: The Moving Racetrack
Well, what would the 2c/5 components be? I probably would need a forward rake, a backward rake, and others.

Paul Tooke's 2c/5 puffer collection contains a lot of 2c/5 technology. It can be downloaded from Jason Summers' life page.

Re: The Moving Racetrack
And what would a good side-sparker be? (I've found a back-sparker in the r100 file.)
