In this thread, I'm going to pretend that I wake up one day on a desert island with only my laptop but with all CA-related stuff (Golly, apgsearch, etc.) removed, and I want to redevelop CA technology. Essentially this is this thread but slower and more systematic.

If you don't want anybody to contribute, why are you doing this on a publicly editable thread? Wouldn't it make more sense to do this on a static page only you can edit? e.g. in your userspace in LW
