Does this oscillator exists?

Post by merk » September 8th, 2023, 6:45 pm

Tonight I created with two quee-bee an oscillator. Searching the name of the oscillator in LifeWiki I was not able to find it. Does this oscillator exists?
I started this topic in the Sandbox Section because the pattern i created is quite stupid and probably it is not worthy to be in the pattern section.
If the section is the wrong one, please correct me. I'm new.

Welcome the the forums! You want the "Thread for Basic Questions" thread in General Discussion.

Anyway, you seem to have found a new queen bee shuttle pair. It's probably known, although my search corroborated yours and if it is, no one posted it to the forums or LifeWiki.

You can post the RLE of a pattern in "code" tags:

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
24b2o$23bobo$22bo$9b2o11bo2bo7b2o$9bobo10bo10b2o$12bo10bobo$2o7bo2bo
11b2o$2o10bo$9bobo$9b2o!
This oscillator definitely exists; it is two interacting queen bee shuttles stabilized by two blocks.

Looking it up on the Catagolue, I found that it appeared ~ 1 year ago in b3s23/stdin_QBS/xp30 census. But it was probably seen a number of times before, whenever someone tried to collide two queen bee shuttles.

ha that was your thousandth post

On a somewhat unrelated note, is it possible to use the catagolue tag without making the link text an apgcode, like this?

I don't know. I would make the link in the same way (via "url").

It is a variation of [url-https://catagolue.hatsya.com/object/xp3 ... y2oo/b3s23]this[/url], except one of the blocks is in a different place. This oscillator along with its other varianthas occurred a total of about 125,000 times in https://catagolue.hatsya.com/census/b3s23/C2_2
