May I ask what you intended it to be? And isn't a thread created explicitly to be locked quickly the same sort of problem as another random posts thread?

Especially since if it doesn't get locked, there is no other future for it than random posts. Honestly, at this point I think having a random posts thread is a lesser evil compared to a bunch of random threads.
Obligatory disclaimer: when I was younger, I used to post a lot in said thread, and I only stopped because I took another post as criticism of the quality of my random posts.

I don't want people to get angry and start flame wars on this or other topics; I'm sure we all strongly disagree on something and that voicing those disagreements in harsh words would have only bad effects.
I'm not trying to ban you from talking about cats and governments, but just be aware that people might react more emotionally to certain topics than your friends might.

For the record, I disagree with most (but not all) of what you and your friends say, and let's just leave it at that. I want to think that if you or someone else had made a similar post arguing for a position I supported, I would have written a similar reply.

ok the important part was the "replacing them with cats" and then my correction of "*mewlitaries", not the rest of the talk. in fact, i omitted 30 posts from it that were just politics with no fun comments

If this keeps up we'll end up with an environment that's extremely hostile to any kind of constructive contributions whatsoever. Instead of discussions about actual interesting CA stuff/curiosities/discoveries, you'll have people constantly trying to fight/blame/troll/manipulate each other, here and there and everywhere over the website. Also hostile to newcomers who are trying to understand what is this all about.
