The Investigator palette is a nice balance of limitations and options, while not being a rule specifically constructed for non-CA purposes.
I made my icon in it, for example. I was going to put the RLE in my signature but it was too long so now it's my icon
If I do more with it, I'll post them here - and you're welcome to do the same. If they're not surrounded by dark grey cells, they might even evolve in fun ways. Who knows.
