Fun With the stairstep hexomino

THis pattern is one I call LOM adjuster. It is basically the Lumps of Muck reaction interacting with a block in such a way that it reappears shifted and rotated several turns later. There are also several gliders strategically placed which stifle the leftover blocks and the pi heptominoes that appear with every shift of the LOM reaction, so as to prevent these from interfering with said reaction. I have only built enough to sustain the reaction until generation 116, but I think the main idea is expressed by then.

Seems that you could take a different turn after the 3rd release to make the basis of a p108 rotator. Your current travel path is 5 by 4 reflected, and looks like this (in the LifeHistory rule):

The required block-synthesis, blinker-cleanup and block-cleanup gliders can all be put on the same path; the first two can have a difference of 18 gen, but the 3rd doesn't seem to fit into that stream. There's room for improvment here, surely…

I'll try to investigate that more thanks. I still want to try and make a spacship out of my origional reaction as well, since if it were successful I'm thinking it would be a new velocity, (but that's a big if). ALso, whet rule is life history?

It's a version of Life with various annotations (pattern history, walls, etc.) that should come with Golly.

If LumpsOfMuck is running Golly on Linux then lifehistory.table won't be found because the file is called LifeHistory.table and Linux (normally) uses a case-sensitive file system. Always best to use exactly the right case for rules when sharing patterns.

Similarly, best to avoid using "life" -- B3/S23 is nicer for people who don't use Golly (apparently there are a few such people still remaining :wink: ).
