: | : Pretty much for the same reason that we don't call a block a "square tetromino". "Block" is traditional, and much shorter, and we talk about blocks a lot, so it's good to have a short common name for it. We also talk about Herschels a lot, and nobody wants to type "H-heptomino" every time they're discussing Herschels. Dvgrn (talk) 12:56, 12 August 2024 (UTC) |

Name
I believe "Herschel" should be capitalized as I have only ever seen it that way. FractalFusion 05:34, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Good call, I've made the change. While we're on the subject, does anyone know who the Herschel is named after? It'd be a nice tidbit to add to this page. Nathaniel 11:37, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Here is another useful site: 1. I know it is named after the astronomer William Herschel, but I don't know why. That site says that it is because the Herschel looks like the symbol for Uranus; however it looks more like Saturn or Jupiter symbol. 2. On the subject of capitalization, if Life Lexicon capitalizes a name of a pattern, then it seems logical that it should be capitalized here. FractalFusion 00:32, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm very confused with the shape and alias of Herschel.
