31P8H4V0 is the smallest known period 8 c/2 orthogonal spaceship and a would-be block puffer made of a middleweight spaceship and another xWSS whose output is cancelled by its own spark. It was found by Jason Summers on October 29, 2002.[1]

A partial glider synthesis for this spaceship was posted by Goldtiger997 on April 9, 2020, with the final step and most of the base still life construction completed.[2] The synthesis was completed with 189 gliders the next day.[3] Several minor improvements, reducing the synthesis to 182 gliders, were posted by Mark Niemiec on June 6.[4] On August 3, Blinkerspawn and Tanner Jacobi found a 37-glider synthesis using a different base.[5]
