54P17.1 is an unnamed period 17 oscillator. It was the first period 17 oscillator to be found, and was discovered by Dean Hickerson on April 27, 1997.[1][2] In terms of its 54 cells, it had been the smallest known period 17 oscillator for 17 years until discovery of honey thieves in September 2014.[3] It has one well-known variant, 71P17.1, which is shown below. This oscillator is related to 42P10.1.
