An anteater is a pattern that eats ants and can be stationary (such as the stabilization in electric fence) or moving. Moving anteaters have been found for the speeds of c/4 orthogonal and c/4 diagonal, the diagonal case eating an oblique row of ants.

In 2011 Matthias Merzenich discovered a c/5 orthogonal anteater,[1] enabling completion of an oblique wavestretcher.
