Category talk:Synthesizable objects without synthesis reference
To User:AwesoMan3000 who created this category: I doubt whether it is really a good idea to urge other LifeWiki editors to dig through tons of old posts just to add a couple of reference to glider syntheses and reductions. I mean, if you're not Mark Niemiec or someone alike who is already keeping the records organized, edits like this I just made to why not can take more than half an hour to made, and it could even be longer if the keywords (here name, but the same applies to apgcode, pentadecathlonid, etc) were not present in the references. The step is influential to a lot of articles, yet its potential lead to quality improvement is not very clear, or at least does not worth the time consumed. Moreover, I have not seen any consensus, let alone agreement, among users on the issue. GUYTU6J (talk) 09:18, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- A lot of existing still life and oscillator pages have dedicated paragraphs about their syntheses, but there's still some that don't, and my intent is to patch all such inconsistencies where possible. Given that there's been a lot of effort recently into optimising syntheses for still lifes of low populations there's a lot that could be said in sections such as this, and more simple still lifes like blocks could have info on multiple different syntheses as well, depending on which is most useful. - muzik (talk) 15:02, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
There is at least one more disagreement on the idea here. Similar to many other things you are currently doing to the LifeWiki, detailing syntheses for every small objects and patching inconsistencies can make sense for improving quality, sure, but the two key problems of lack of consensus and high time consumption have not been addressed. Why not try one yourself before designing the template (which is, as far as I see, basically equivalent to asking others to assist you in the matter), say, 14P2.3 (the first member in this category at the time of writing)? - Valid point, actually. I've tried adding some synthesis descriptions for WSS flotillas, but they're definitely not as detailed as the synthesis descriptions I've seen elsewhere. - muzik (talk) 04:37, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- As this matter is still lurking in my mind, I have just spent a day adding descriptions for miscellaneous staged syntheses. Look, explaining how the synthetic reactions happen is still something different from citing the discovery publication - which one, or both, was your intention when making the template? I may have misunderstood when reducing the category title to "… synthesis reference". GUYTU6J (talk) 16:52, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
