A crotchet ship is a c/3 spaceship which contains a wave of one or more crotchet components (i.e. the waltz wave) on one end. The other end must be stabilized with another component, typically an edge-repair spaceship.[1] Because a crotchet component can be attached to another, such a ship is infinitely extensible.

The following is a typical crotchet ship containing four extra waltz units attached to a crotchet which is integral to the edge-repair spaceship (top-right):

Goldtiger997 discovered a reaction which can add a new crotchet component, also known as an anacrusis when in a terminal position. to the end of an existing crotchet ship.[2] This allows the whole series of crotchet ships to be constructible since the initial edge-repair spaceship can also be constructed, as shown below.

There are various ways to remove one anacrusis from a crotchet ship. A boat, for example, can be used for this purpose without being destroyed.

By adding boats to Goldtiger997's edge-repair spaceship to glider converter, a converter can be made for any sized crotchet ship[3]

The anacrusis can react with various still lifes to release a glider while removing the crotchet. This glider can then be used to rebuild the still life so that the reaction can be repeated, and can also release an LWSS traveling upwards to eventually produce a glider convoy which can add the anacrusis back onto the advancing ship. This enables a psuedo-Heisenburp reaction to be built, the first of which was constructed on February 1, 2023.[4]
