Goban is a period-19 oscillator , and is the second period-19 oscillator to be discovered, after Cribbage . It was found by Period1GliderGun [1] on February 24, 2024, as a completion of a period-19 wick by May13 ,[2] which was itself a stabilisation of a partial by iNoMed for which Period1GliderGun had previously found a period-38 stabilisation.[3] On the same day, BlinkerSpawn reduced its stator by two cells, yielding its present minimum population of 134.[1]
It consists of two sets of two different unnamed catalysts, two eater 2s and two fishhooks hassling two honey farms . The period-38 form swaps two of the unnamed catalysts for a pair of ships restored by a half-bakery /ship-tie catalyst.

May13's wick stabilisation. The three right-side connections use a different isomer from the three left-side connections -- notice the slight change in the angle of the wick.(click above to open LifeViewer )
Etymology
It was named after the goban (transliteration of 碁盤), the board upon which the game of Go is played, due to the early history of Life involving the manual simulation of patterns upon them, and as a reference to the fact that they are traditionally 19 × 19 .
