Krake[note 1] is a 13-cell still life.

The krake is sometimes used when two eater 1s need to be placed close together.

Construction

Krake is known to be constructible with 4 gliders.[1]

Occurrence

This is the 143rd most common still life on Adam P. Goucher's Catagolue.

There are two collisions in the octo3obj database with krake in the ash.[note 2]

Notes

  1. The origin of the name is not known. However, krake means octopus in German and the name seems to have first appeared in Achim Flammenkamp's census no later than 2004.
  2. Headerless RLEs of the collisions are b2o5b3o2bo$o2bo8b2o$b2o9bobo5$3bo$3bo$3bo! (11 escaping gliders, final population 472) and 5b2ob2o$5b2ob2o4$6b2ob2o$b2o3b2ob2o$o2bo$b2o$4b3o$4bo$5bo! (3 escaping gliders, final population 112).
