Long is a term applied to an object that is of the same basic form as some standard object, but longer. Some common examples include long barge, long boat, long bookend, long canoe, long shillelagh, long ship and long snake.

The word can be repeated to indicate that the object is even longer than the standard long version of it (for example, long long barge).
