Mold on fire-spitting is a period-12 oscillator composed of a mold and a fire-spitting. Although it is composed of two oscillators of smaller periods (p3 and p4 respectively), it is considered non-trivial, because it has three cells that oscillate with the full period. In terms of its minimum population of 31 cells it is the smallest known non-trivial period 12 oscillator, surpassing dinner table (33 cells) and caterer on 21P4.1 (33 cells) (Catagoluehere),[1] although the trivial mold on candlefrobra contains only 24 cells.

Although the two oscillators have been known since 1988 and 2003, the observation they could be combined to make an LCM oscillator was not made until 2023.[2]

A 43-glider synthesis for mold on fire-spitting was completed within a day after discovery.[3]

There exists another orientation of the mold that produces the same spark and ties the minimal population, though it leads to a bounding box of 130 instead of 120.[2]
