p58 pi-heptomino hassler is a period-58 oscillator discovered by Luke Kiernan on June 26, 2022 using a symmetric CatForce search.[1] It is currently the smallest known oscillator of this period.
dani discovered that two of these oscillators could be combined to create a gliderless lightweight spaceship gun. An LWSS-to-G converter has just enough recovery time to turn the LWSS into a glider, resulting in the smallest known period-58 glider gun, as shown below.[2] This is a rare instance of a known xWSS gun having a smaller bounding box than the glider gun of the same period, though not the only such example.[3] A direct glider gun construction has yet to be found.

This oscillator's 16-glider synthesis is extremely trivial: components (two blocks, four eaters, two pi-heptominoes) can be constructed using their standard two-glider recipes without any conflicts.[4]
Other hassler
Another period-58 oscillator exists (discovered in the mvr_catforce_stdin census on Catagolue), in which the pi-heptomino doesn't appear but two instances of its three-generation descendant are hassled.
