Period-54 glider gun is a true period 54 gun discovered by David Raucci on September 16, 2021. It consists of a stable honeyfarm-to-LOM conduit and a periodic LOM-to-honeyfarm conduit that connect only to each other. As often happens, the earliest form of the gun (a dimer using two p9 heavyweight emulators) was gradually improved during the course of a discussion on Discord, to the form shown in the infobox at right, which uses a period-9 snacker and a period-3 catalyst found via search program.

This is one of a relatively small number of known true period guns below period 62, beyond which stable Herschel loops enable the construction of arbitrary-period guns. Period 54 is currently the sixth-smallest glider gun overall with a distinct period; while a slightly smaller p54 gun based on an entirely different mechanism has since been found, either version would rank sixth.

The small p54 gun is not the first of that period to be discovered, but the previous true-period form was much larger and used Herschel tracks.^{[citation needed]}

On July 11, 2022, another period-54 glider gun with bounding box under 1,000 cells was found; that one is based on 43P54. After a few improvements, it is slightly smaller than the honey farm-based p54 gun.
