Period-55 glider gun is a true period 55 gun discovered by David Raucci on September 16, 2021[1], with optimizations by Dongook Lee and others on September 17th.[2] It is a complex three-sparker honeyfarm hassler that uses the eater1 / honeyfarm explosion reaction from the Snark to produce the same output glider. The sparkers then modify the reaction's ash to produce a new honeyfarm explosion in the same location. This is in contrast with the Snark's catalysts, which rebuild a block that must then be activated by another input glider.
The p55 gun is one of a relatively small number of known true period guns below period 62, beyond which stable Herschel loops enable the construction of arbitrary-period guns. It is currently the second-smallest odd-period gun after the period-21 glider gun by minimum population, and the outright smallest odd-period gun by bounding box.[3]
