R49 is an dependent elementary conduit, discovered by Luka Okanishi on October 4, 2019 based on a reaction by Entity Valkyrie.[1] After 49 ticks, it produces a Herschel turned right with a displacement of (-1, 22). It contains a BFx59H reaction, but the Herschel predecessor hits the BFx59H, and not actually a B-heptomino. Its recovery time is 59 ticks.

The pattern as shown in the infobox has a ghost Herschel marking the output location. The pattern is notable in that, unlike other dependent conduits like Lx200, this conduit starts with a five-tick predecessor and not three. It is the first such conduit.[citation needed] A second copy of the conduit is included in the pattern, to the left of the working copy, with a ghost Herschel marking the correct input location.

The Herschel loop made of four copies of this conduit is the second smallest in terms of bounding box, surpassing the previous record holder period-256 glider gun.
