Scholar (or 383P7H2V0) is a 2c/7 orthogonal spaceship that was found by Andrew J. Wade on December 30, 2019 using a new search script known as life_slice_ship_search. It was the second elementary spaceship of this speed to be discovered, and the first 2c/7 spaceship not based on the weekender.[1] On March 22, 2020, Aidan F. Pierce noticed that it could be extended using a component originally found as part of 186P7H2V0, also found by Wade.[2]
The scholar ranked third place in the Pattern of the Year 2019 competition on the ConwayLife.com forums, behind the spider synthesis and David Hilbert.[3]
