An object is said to be self-synthesizing if at least one of the phases of its evoltion is its own glider synthesis. More generally, it can refer to a pattern in any rule which is composed entirely of spaceships (which are able to come from infinity) in at least one phase.

MOS

MOS is an acronym for Made Of Spaceships, and is used to refer to classes of self-synthesizing objects. The acronym is rarely used in isolation, and is often combined with another letter representing another pattern class:

  • SMOS: Spaceship made of spaceships
    • SMOSMOS: Spaceship made of spaceships made of spaceships
  • OMOS: Oscillator made of spaceships
  • RMOS: Replicator made of spaceships
