Talk:0E0P metacell
We need to decide whether this is a period-2^36 metacell with rectilinear sides, or a period-2^35 metacell with diagonal sides.
(In both cases, it's cute that the area and the period match exactly.)
If we want to do an 'emulatable rule space' section, as with the p1 megacell, then it's 2^511 rules for the p2^36 metacell, compared with 8^4095 rules for the p2^35 metacell.
What's the general consensus? Calcyman (talk) 02:00, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- It might be necessary to run some kind of general education campaign before any kind of general consensus can develop. At the moment there's only a single rather cryptic reference to BCC cellular automata on the LifeWiki, and it's in Apple Bottom's Sandbox area and resolves to this forum posting. So a lot of people might be fairly puzzled by the 8^4095-sized rulespace until the mechanics of these metacells get explained a bit better.
- For the time being, I stand by my implied vote during the creation of this article, that the 0E0P metacell that this article is talking about is a period-2^36 metacell with rectilinear sides, intended for emulating range-2 Moore-neighborhood rules. As soon as one of these things gets programmed with some interesting multistate BCC rule that doesn't correspond to any Moore-neighborhood rule, I will cheerfully admit that that 0E0P metacell is a period-2^35 metacell with diagonal sides.
