Talk:Hybrid rule
Issue concerning former version
The table of mixes
I'm moving the table of "mixes" to the talk page, as it is
(a) necessarily incomplete (there are way too many "mixes" to list them all, even if you restrict the table to "interesting" ones, for any interesting definition of "interesting"), and
(b) currently limited to only one way of "mixing" rules -- the page does not say anything about multistate rules, for example.
Instead of listing hybrid rules, I think it would be better to describe existing ways of creating hybrid rules, with links to relevant forum posts. Confocal (talk) 14:24, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
The table
Lists Of Hybrid Life:
| Rulestring | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| B36/S12 | HighFlock | A mix between Flock and HighLife |
| B36/S128 | IronFlock | A mix between Flock and IronLife |
| B367/S23 | DrighLife | A mix between Dry Life and HighLife |
| B37/S12 | DryFlock | A mix between Dry Life and Flock |
| B38/S12 | Pedestrian Flock | A mix between Flock and Pedestrian Life |
| B38/S128 | HoneyFlock | A mix between HoneyLife and Flock |
Moving
I reverted the article to an older version, moved it to user namespace under User:Drelectron8/Hybrid Life, and created a new page Hybrid rule by restoring some fragments after improvement. This is because of the fundamental distinction between User:Drelectron8's "Hybrid Life" and User:Confocal's idea about "Hybrid rule". From my perspective they are different enough for separate documentation. GUYTU6J (talk) 15:21, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
Re: "The association between the talk page and the original page is lost." This talk page is offering some explanation.
Re: "The history of contributions to the article is lost as well." The history of contributions by User:Drelectron8 to his article "Hybrid Life" is well preserved and can be seen here, and this is also my main reason for moving. I think future contributions to the article Hybrid rule should be in a separate history due to the reasons above. GUYTU6J (talk) 15:37, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Reply to "From my perspective they are different enough for separate documentation." -- the keywords are "from my perspective". If the idea to recreate the page from scratch while removing any mention of previous contributions by other members is your idea/perspective, then it seems to make sense to move it to your userspace, as yet another version/branch of the page. After that, the previously existing page would be moved back again, to preserve edit history as it was. Thoughts? Confocal (talk) 15:43, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- There may be another better solution: delete this newly-created-from-scratch page and move the edit histories since this edit in the previous history to the current history. GUYTU6J (talk) 15:50, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- If past experience is any guide, this is a bad solution, because it requires a moderator to intervene. Something that does not require a non-moderator user to act like a moderator, neither a moderator to intervene, is clearly better than something that requires one of those. - Moved the recreated version to User:GUYTU6J/Hybrid_rule and restored the old page -- see Special:Log/move for details and any further updates. Confocal (talk) 15:57, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
