Template:POTY

This is a template for describing a pattern's placing in its respective Pattern of the Year competition, linking to the results of said competition, and adding the pattern to relevant POTY categories. It can take the following parameters:

• year, the year the pattern was discovered:
  • For Pattern of the Decade, this should be the decade name, i.e. 2010s;
  • Between 2012 and 2014, POTY went on a several-year hiatus; belated votes held years later for patterns found during this period will automatically be described as such;
• rank, a number from 1-3:
  • Only the top 3 patterns from each competition are to use this template. Anything notable enough to get a standalone article on LifeWiki will usually be nominated, so this template would otherwise likely cause clutter across a large portion of the wiki;
• name, the name of the pattern (optional, defaults to the article title);
• collective, if two or more discoveries were consolidated into a single entry (optional);
• type, the type of competition (optional, defaults to standard POTY):
  • Supported options are potd for Pattern of the Decade, and oca for OCA Discovery of the Year;
• behind, link(s) to the pattern(s) which ranked further ahead (optional);
• tie, link(s) to the pattern(s) which tied with this one (optional);
