Cuphook is a period-3 oscillator that was found by Rich Schroeppel in October 1970.[1][2] It is one of only three essentially different period 3 oscillators with only three cells in the rotor. The others are 1-2-3 and stillater.

The name cuphook has long been associated with the trans isomer (more accurately, trans-block on cuphook), as shown in the infobox. The cis isomer of this oscillator (cis-block on cuphook) first appeared naturally on March 15, 2015, in a soup submitted to Catagolue by Adam P. Goucher.[3]
