Evin created his own classification of rules, with many categories:

• Stable: Patterns quickly settle down
  • Implosive: Almost all or all patterns die
  • Stabilizing: Stable but not dying
• Chaotic: not exploding, not very stable
• Explosive: most large patterns grow forever
  • Expanding: most growth is linear
  • Seeds-explosive: non-B0 rules that include B1c, B1e, or B2a explode at lightspeed
  • DryLife-explosive: slow, messy explosions for no apparent reason
  • Wlife(B34w/S23)-explosive: explodes due to a common replicator
  • 345/3456/6-explosive: Common rakes and puffers interact to create quadratic growth
