Note: this is a joke page. Do NOT try any of the actions here unless you want to feel the greatest possible wrath of the CA community.

Newcomers, take this page as a lesson on what you should not do.

And please don't fall victim to the Streisand effect...

Demerit points:

  • One for every thing you try below
  • 100 if you have done everything
  • 10,000 if you have done everything in one post/one day

DO NOT DO:

(list by several wiki editors, with various stuff also from forum threads: demerit points are one point each except for those specified)

General:

  • Use multiple sockpuppets/alts
  • Make silly user-specific posts/questions to draw attention from other forum members
  • Quote a post more than a year old without adding something constructive (5 demerit points)
  • Post messages that only say 'goodbye'
  • Make puns of the admins' real names.

Pattern representations:

  • Use [viewer] tags instead of [code] tags repeatedly, after you read and understood rule 5 (5 demerit points)
  • Use [viewer] tags on something non-groundbreaking without reducing the size using commands
  • Post an image of a really complicated pattern instead of an RLE, after you read and understood rule 5 (5 demerit points)

Pattern-specific:

  • Claim you discovered something ridiculous like a 12-cell c/3 spaceship or a tiny p19 in Life and then insisting “well, you guys missed it, I guess” (10 demerit points)
  • Rediscover the glider and call it 5P4H1V1
  • Rediscover the LWSS and call it 9P4H2V0
  • Rediscover the MWSS and call it 11P4H2V0
  • Rediscover the HWSS and call it 13P4H2V0
  • Post (re)discoveries of SL, p2, or p3 outside Thread For Your Useless Discoveries
  • After somebody finishes a really big reduction to a spaceship/catalyst/oscillator synthesis, say "Yeah but it can be done in 15" (10 demerit points)
  • Using PASTEET to make troll patterns in a thread where new posts are supposed to be legitemate (like Soup search results or Small Spaceship Syntheses)

OCA-specific:

  • Post a strobing/B0 pattern without either warning beforehand or presetting the step to an even number
  • Post a multistate rule without a rule table or rule tree (or another representation from which a rule table can be generated automatically by a reasonably well-known working tool)
  • Make a project on a Wireworld computer after finding out that there is a Wireworld computer (2^n demerit points where n is the number of suers who have tried it: current n is probably 3)
  • Using EPE to make troll patterns
  • Post an incredibly large pattern you found using rlifesrc without optimizing it
  • Create a rule format without defining it

Terminology-specific:

  • Write "hickerize" instead of "corderize"
  • Write "moving oscillator" instead of "spaceship" (5 demerit points)

Software-specific:

  • Claim some other program or app is better than Golly (unless it is actually better at something)[note 1]
  • Mix up WLS, JLS, LLS, and LSSS
  • Mix up JLS and jslife
  • Mix up afind, bfind, cfind, dfind, efind, ffind, gfind, hfind, ifind, jfind, kfind, lfind, mfind, nfind, ofind, pfind, qfind, rfind, sfind, tfind, ufind, vfind, wfind, xfind, yfind, and zfind
  • Describe all software as "scripts", even compiled programs, websites, etc. (5 demerit points)

Thread-specific:

  • Bump a thread where new posts are supposed to be exciting (like Soup search results or Small Spaceship Syntheses) without adding anything constructive
  • Keep bugging other members on 'Thread for basic questions'

Discord-only:

  • Bring back #channel-debate
  • Say "Discord is already a wasteland"
  • Sim Caterer in #exotic-ca

(Work in progress)

Final tabulation

  • 0: Congrats! You are either admin quality or a newcomer. Either is great.
  • 1-5: Everyone makes mistakes. No worries!
  • 6-15: Learn from your mistakes and do not cause harm. This is bad already, faster learn faster improve!
  • 16-38: You are definitely suspicious. A vandal or troll perhaps?
  • 39-100: The admins are targeting you and you know it.
  • 101-10000: I don't even know what to say. How could you do this to our website?
  • 10000+: The admins want to block you. Heck, before this stage most users would have earned permanent bans already.
