This page documents isotropic non-totalistic rules that are only one transition from Life.

Note: Here we do not consider B0.

Birth transitions

B1

B1c3/S23

An explosive rule characterized by the exploding dot replicator.

B1e3/S23

Also explosive, but fills a growing diamond-shaped region with density of about 50%.

B2

B2c3/S23

Random soups expand and create some temporary stable objects.

B2e3/S23

Random soups expand and emit some small five-bit spaceships.

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2e3/S23 bo$obo$obo! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 16 GPS 20 LOOP 20 TRACK 0 -1/2 ]]
The common five-bitter in B2e3/S23.

B2k3/S23

Similar to 3-4 Life, soups create expanding chaotic blobs, shooting gliders outwards.

B2a3/S23

Explosive, as with Seeds.

B2i3/S23

Similar to DryLife, soups create expanding clouds of chaos, shooting gliders outwards.

x = 11, y = 11, rule = B2i3/S23 5bo$3b2ob2o$3bobobo$b2ob3ob2o$bobobobobo$ob3ob3obo$bobobobobo$b2ob3ob 2o$3bobobo$3b2ob2o$5bo! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 12 GPS 15 LOOP 20 ]]
Common P20 in B2i3/S23.

B2n3/S23

Similar to DryLife, soups create expanding clouds of chaos, shooting gliders and occasionally xWSSes outwards.

B3

B3-c/S23

Similar to Life, but honey farms do not form naturally.

B3-e/S23

Similar to Life. There is a natural P46 (not the twin bees shuttle!), a 2c/11 diagonal, and a c/14 diagonal. There is also a (58, 18)c/295 oblique puffer evolving from an R+block collision, a 15c/59 orthogonal puffer evolving from a pi+two tubs collision. .

x = 43, y = 5, rule = B3-e/S23 5o15b2o3bo14bo$2ob3o14b6o14b2o$b2o2bo15bo19b2o$2bo2bo16bobo17bo$3b2o 17b3o17bo! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 8 GPS 12 LOOP 46 ]]

natural (58, 18)c/295 puffer starting from an R+block collision.

natural 15c/59o puffer starting from a pi+two tubs collision.

B3-k/S23

Similar to Life, but with some special oscillators and a natural 5c/16o.

x = 35, y = 12, rule = B3-k/S23 32b2o$o12b2o7bo8bo2bo$obo7b2ob3o4b3o8bo2bo$obo19bo7bo3bo$2bo8b3ob2o4b 3o6bo2bo$12b2o8b2o6b2o$30b2o$30bo2bo$30bo3bo$31bo2bo$31bo2bo$32b2o! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 8 GPS 12 LOOP 32 ]]
Left to right: P2, P4, P4, 5c/16o.

B3-a/S23

Patterns never escape their bounding diamonds.

B3-i/S23

Patterns never escape their bounding boxes.

B3-n/S23

Similar to Life, with a P5, a P6, and a 27c/118 diagonal puffer.

x = 17, y = 5, rule = B3-n/S23 2o12b2o$b2o8b2ob3o$10bo5bo$2b2o7b2ob3o$3b2o9b2o! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 12 GPS 8 LOOP 30 ]]
A P5 and a P6.

B3-r/S23

Fishhooks are more common.

x = 17, y = 4, rule = B3-r/S23 2b2o$3bo$obo8b6o$3o! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 12 GPS 6 LOOP 18 ]]
Left: a predecessor of a semi-common 22-cell still life.
Right: the worker bee works without external support.

B4

B34e/S23

Fleets are instead a pair of eleveners. Other than that and the lack of working honey farms, not much difference from Life.

B34w/S23

Features a quadratic replicator from the traffic light sequence, making it extremely common.

x = 4, y = 7, rule = B34w/S23 o$2o$3o$b3o$3o$2o$o! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 12 GPS 6 LOOP 18 ]]
c/2o, period 6

(click above to open LifeViewer)

B6

B36n/S23

The HighLife replicator works, but closer to Life in other respects.

B37e/S23

Settles down similar to Life, but with a common infinite growth pattern arising from the I-heptomino.

x = 5, y = 5, rule = B37e/S23 2o$o2bo$o3bo$bobo$2bo! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ AUTOSTART ZOOM 6 GPS 26 LOOP 208 ]]
I-heptomino becomes (11,11)c/52 puffer

B38/S23

Has an article: Pedestrian Life.

Survival transitions

S0

B3/S023

Has an article: DotLife.

S1

B3/S1c23

Very explosive.

B3/S1e23

Very explosive.

S2

B3/S2-i3

Has both the glider and the c/5o T-ship from tlife. Honeycombs form from phi sparks. The cap is a period-4 oscillator.

S4

B3/S234z

Lasts longer and expands more than Life, but still not explosive. The pi heptomino becomes a dead spark coil and a beehive. Hats are also more common.

S8

B3/S238

Has an article: EightLife.
