Very long snake is an 8-cell still life and is the long long extension of the snake which can be used as a one-time reflector. It was found in 1971.[1]
This still life can be interpreted as two mutually stabilising hooks. An alternate arrangement, which could be seen as the cis version of the very long snake, results in the canoe.

Very long snake is the sixtieth most common still life in Achim Flammenkamp's census, being less common than cis-block on long bookend but more common than tub with nine.[2] It is also the seventy-second most common object on Adam P. Goucher's Catagolue.[3]
Glider synthesis
All strict still lifes with a population of 22 or fewer cells, all oscillators with 16 or fewer cells, and all spaceships with 31 or fewer cells are known to be glider-constructible. A glider synthesis of this object can be found in the infobox to the right.
