Ville Salo is a Life enthusiast who is an adjunct professor and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Turku, Finland.

In 2022, he and Ilkka Törmä solved the unique father problem in the positive, providing a 32×26 still life that cannot be constructed from scratch by any means. At the same time, they solved a generalized version of the grandfather problem with the same pattern.
