22-cell quadratic growth is a quadratic growth pattern that was found by dani and David Raucci on March 12, 2022,[1] based on a larger breeder found using a custom apgsearch symmetry on the same day.[2] It was briefly the smallest known pattern in terms of population to exhibit quadratic growth, until the discovery of 21-cell quadratic growth, surpassing the 23-cell switch engine ping-pong, found by Michael Simkin in 2014.[note 1]

Notes

  1. The current bounding box record (23×13) belongs to a separate predecessor, found by Rocknlol,[3] based on a 26×18 predecessor by Luka Okanishi of the same breeder.[4]
