70P2H1V0.1 is a c/2 orthogonal spaceship. A 207-glider synthesis of this spaceship was submitted to Catagolue on July 18, 2020, making this the first period-2 spaceship to be synthesized.[1] Martin Grant subsequently revealed himself to be the author of the synthesis.[2] Improvements to the synthesis have since been found.[3]

On November 19, 2020, Goldtiger997 discovered a method to add a small component on one side of 70P2H1V0.1, resulting in a closely related 72-cell spaceship. The original version of this method was extremely convoluted and dirty, involving a superstring constructed from gliders and LWSSes and leaving behind a large amount of ash.[4] An even longer superstring would likely have been required to apply the component on the other side. Later the same day, Goldtiger997 found a way to add this component with only four gliders, with the additional advantage that the same conversion can be applied on both sides without further modification.[5] Finally, BlinkerSpawn found a method to remove the component with three gliders on each side.[6]
