American Dream is a pattern with a finite population which has an infinite-population parent but no finite-population parents, found and proven by Ilkka Törmä and Ville Salo in January 2022 using the PicoSAT[1] SAT solver.[2] It is the first known pattern having this property, and gets its name from its similarity to an outline of the map of the contiguous United States.

To obtain American Dream, advance the "almost parent" pattern shown on the left below one generation. The result is shown on the right, below. Then discard the top row, leaving the pattern shown in the infobox. To get an infinite parent of American Dream, repeatedly extend the top three rows of "almost parent" at T = 0 upward.
