A multistate rule is, broadly speaking, any cellular automaton in which cells exist in more than two states, as opposed to a binary rule.
Types of multistate rules
Various kinds of multistate rules have been proposed or investigated, among them:
- BSFKL and BSFK rules.
- Colourised Life, including Immigration, Quadlife and Niemiec's Life.
- Generations rules.
- Larger than Life Generations rules.
- Polystate Life rules.
- Reverse Generations ("snoitareneG") rules[1]
